Final reflecction 2

The second part of the course was very interesting and useful too. We learnt about other kind of tools to use in the classroom as teachers, like subtitling, for example, but lots of tools for the students to use like mysimpleshow. I personally like editing videos, so all the tools related to that I thought were very good. I always use Windows movie maker to edit all my videos, but I recognize if takes quite a lot of time and you have to know a bit of the programme to use its full potential. That's why I found all those tools to edit videos very interesting. I didn't know that PowerPoint also allows you to cut videos; I thought you could only upload videos to the slides, so it was surprising for me that other option. As I have already said, I have an interest in editing videos, so I was amazed with things like Dotsub for subtitling, as my previuos try to subtitling was just adding pieces of text to a video in Movie Maker that I had to give up because it was ...

Final PLE

Imagen
This my final PLE There are lots of things in there, some of them could have also been in the initial one, but I didn't realise how useful they were, and how without noticing I use them to learn, like for exampl,s Social Networks, which sometimes have interesting information to apply in a classroom, or information about my interests. Also it has tools that we used during the course, like Kahoot, Quizizz, Animoto,..., tools I will use in my life as a teacher, but that are also helpful for me as a student. Some of these would have been very useful in previous years,  In this picture you can see the sites grouped -VLP:   MiAulario-UPNA , FutureLearn , Edmodo  and Google Classroom -Vídeo Tools:  Animoto ,  Mysimpleshow ,  Powtoon -Blog creation:  Blogger  and  WordPress -Mindmap tools:  Coggle ,  Mindup 2 ,  Mindomo  and  Mindmeister -Resources&citing: Dialnet and Mendele...

Edmodo

Edmodo is a VLP (Virtual Learning Platform) very useful to teachers or schools that can't afford paying to have their own VPL. Throughout the course I discover Google Classroom , which seemed to be very similar, but as I discivered later on, it is connected with Google suites and only schools can have it. With Edmodo , you can have a free and independent VLP to interact with your students. I've created a VLP for the Fun for Movers exam, with different things the students can do to improve in the exercises they will have to face when they take the exam. One of the things I like most from this tool is the possibility of programming your posts in advance, because you can create an outline and then, add more things depending on your students' interests or needs. You can join my class using this code .

Podcast

Another very useful thing we learnt in this course is how to create podcasts. Podcasts are very interesting because they can be listen to in the computer, mp3, tablets, and as teacher if we tell students to do something else, we can assess if their oral comprehension is good or not. Apart from that we can use a tool like Podomatic to make them create a podcast, which can be very useful too and that can engage them into speaking in English to create it and also to be more careful with their pronunciation. My podcast  is named "Change Hugo's face for the film". In this podcast the students have to listen to it and draw the face that Hugo has at the end of it. This way the students will listen to something but also they will perform something and as they have to colour and draw can be very funny and entretaining for them. The podcast was made reading a text by Robinson and Saxby (2010) Robinson, A. and Saxby, K. (2010) Fun for movers. Cambridge: Cambridge Univer...

Evaluation in Excel

Evaluation can sometimes be tough. However with an  Excel spreadsheet , things can be done much more easily. Once you have decided as a teacher the weight of the parts you are assessing and you create the speadsheet, you just have to introuduce the results your students got and that's it! Moreover, you can easily know if the students have passed or not, if you just add that to the column of your final grade.

Final reflecction 1

In this first part, we were presented with different tools to use online. Some of them were familiar to me, for example, I already knew about Quizlet, because I used it as a student, so it was good to use it as a teacher, I mean to create the exercises myself, and see the possibilities it has, and not using it with the topic someone else created for their students to practise and learn. Another tool I knew about was Blogger, as in other subjects we have worked with it, apart from a course I took several years ago where I learnt quite a lot of things about blogger and I started my own blog , although I stopped posting 3 years ago, due to the lack of readers and time to create content. However, I have used blogger lately but in the private version of it to share some content that I didn't want to be public to everyone, only to some people, as it was related to my job. One of the most useful things of this first part of the course, as a student, was the use of Mendeley. Altho...

Digital story

Storyjumper is a wonderful tool to create stories. It is suitable for teachers, but also for students, who can create their own stories and share them with the rest of their classmates or with parents or even to post it in classroom's blogs or webpages. Here there is the story about Bunny Rabbit . In this story we have the pictures, the text, and also it is narrated.I think that being able to record the voice is the biggest advantage of this tool, because the students could do it, so they will perform different tasks just creating the story. However, I had problems to add sounds apart from the background music, because although in the draft they appear, when the book is finished you can't hear them. This story is adapted from another one called "Unhelpful Friends". Bibliography H&C.(n.d)  Unhelpful Friends .  Retrieved from:  http://www.kidsworldfun.com/shortstories_friends.php

Quizlet

With this online tool, Quizlet, there are 3 activities. Two of them were created created for our CLIL unit (Water use), and the other one to work with the tool in a different way, without pictures Our first Quizlet is about vocabulary related with the topic of our unit. The students have to read a text where they can find these words they don't know. So working with this tool, and using the concepts as flashcards, will help our students to remember their meaning, that's why they have a definition, the word and also a picture. These definitions were taken from the Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries The second one is about water habits . We want our students to recall habits in which water is used in their daily lives, and this Quizlet will be used as flashcards in case they don't mention some of the actions that are on them. As our intention is not that they work with the concepts, there are only pictures and words The other Quizlet is about nature and weat...

Hot Potatoes

With this programme we can create a lot of activities or change existing ones to make the students use computers to do them, which is more engaging. We have one that can be used in our CLIL unit, as it is a  drop and match  activity with vocabulary related to different things related in water use, as our CLIL unit is about that topic. I have also created 3 activities , using the sample papers for Fun For Flyers 2018 , because it is a way of introducing ICT in the classroom to do exercises that are usually d one with paper and pencil. Although the exercices are the same, I think that using a computer to make them, will motivate the students more and they will see it as something different, challeging and engaging. ( I made an Index, but I don't know why when you click on the activities doesn't go to them) In the first activity, called definitions  they have to match the definitions with the correct word just dragging and dropping the word next to its definition. ...

Initial PLE

Imagen
This is my initial Personal Learning Environment. I've included in it the webpages I usually use when I study or work: UPNA , to enter the VLP "MiAulario",  FutureLearn   a VLP with plenty of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) WordRefence and Cambridge Dictionary   Dialnet , to find articles that I might use for different assignments in different subjects Google Drive , where I edit and share documents with my classmates and we edit them online Teaching English -British Council , a page where there are lots of articles, ideas to use in ESOL classes
